Overview

Things don’t always go as planned on the river, so it’s important to practice your safety and rescue skills in case of a mishap when you’re out paddling with your friends. This is a practical skills workshop for recreational paddlers of all skill and experience levels.

In this workshop we’ll cover

  • Swimming effectively in whitewater
  • How to get out of your kayak/packraft in difficult spots
  • Throwbags
  • Tow tethers
  • Towing a swimmer
  • Swimming with a kayak/packraft
  • Scouting
  • Decision making
  • And so much more

The first day we’ll focus on specific skills and techniques. Day 2 of this workshop we’ll put these skills to practice during various “real life” scenarios of things that we most often see on the river. This is a great opportunity to practice decision-making, managing group dynamics and leadership skills.
