Overview

We’re stoked to partner with the American Packrafting Association (APA) to host their first ever California packraft meetup, October 8–10, 2027, on the South Fork American River in Lotus, California.

Three days of packraft skills clinics on Class II–III whitewater, evenings at camp with speakers and presentations, and a chance to meet packrafters from all over the West, whether you’re brand new to packrafting or have years of descents behind you.

Registration opens spring 2027. Join the newsletter below to hear first.

What to expect

  • Packraft skills clinics: Small-group, skill-specific clinics on the South Fork American, led by CWC instructors. Topics will range from fundamentals and river reading to rescue and whitewater technique. (Full clinic lineup coming soon.)
  • Camp at Camp Lotus: Riverside camping all weekend, steps from the put-in.
  • Evening speakers and presentations: Slideshows, stories, and talks from packrafters and river people.
  • Community: Meet paddling partners, swap beta, check out boats and gear.

Evening speakers

Melissa DeMarie, California Watersport Collective
Melissa will give a talk on expedition planning, covering logistics, team, risk, and how to take a trip from idea to river, followed by a slideshow from her packrafting expedition in Bolivia.

More speakers to be announced.
