Mental Skills for Whitewater Paddling

Quick Details

Improve confidence and learn to manage pressure and anxiety in this paddling clinic

Mental Skills for Whitewater Paddling | South Fork American, Lotus, CA

Join Whitewater Roadshow instructor and mental performance coach, Lynn Barlow, for a weekend of building mental skills for whitewater paddling.

Mental skills can help kayakers manage pressure, reduce pre-performance and performance anxiety, learn to bounce back from mistakes, become more focused during pressure moments, increase confidence and improve their emotional regulation skills. If you have ever had a hard time: mentally recovering after a swim, feeling confident pushing yourself on harder whitewater, or managing your fear productively, this clinic is for you.

Training with a mental performance coach teaches paddlers skills and techniques that are evidence-based and aligned with best practices. These techniques include pre-performance routines, concentration routines, positive self-talk techniques, mindfulness, visualization, and breathing. Mental training can also help athletes develop a growth mindset and the ability to sustain motivation through setbacks, as well as holistically improving athlete well-being. Mental training is not just for athletes that are struggling. In fact, elite or high-level athletes can take their refined skills and abilities to the next level by engaging in mental training.

This clinic includes “classroom” instruction and training, combined with on-water application.

Please note: This is not an introduction to whitewater kayaking. If you are unsure of which clinic you should sign up for, please read through our Paddling Skill Level Self-Assessment or email info@cwwcollective.com.

The cost of the clinic includes 2 days of instruction, including classroom and on-water training. Camping at our site on the river available.
