The Sea Kayak Leader Training is ideal for kayakers with solid experience in moderate water environments, and are seeking to build confidence and expand their leadership skills – whether they’re in their journey towards self-sufficiency, or guiding for a group or club.

Whether leading in a professional context, supporting a club, or both, the training course – with your added practice and experience – enables you to plan and implement fun, safe, and enjoyable sea kayak journeys for various ability levels.

The training course combines various competencies required of sea kayak leaders, including personal skills, incident management, decision making, supporting paddlers in open water environments, and challenging paddlers to encourage a sense of achievement and connectedness.

As the course setting is in the dynamic waters of the San Francisco Golden Gate area, we will plan to utilize the natural challenges presented by the environment – swell, current, wind, seas or surf – to further optimize our learning in the open water conditions.*

  • Advanced environments potentially: 3-5’ seas, 15k+ winds, 4-5k current.

COURSE PRE-REQUISITE:

All learners must have solid, proven experience paddling and performing rescues in moderate water environments, in preparation to develop personal skills in advanced open water environments.**

** Moderate environments: 2-4’ seas, 15-20k winds, 2-4k current, 2-4’ surf.
