(L5) Tide Race Clinic (Yellow Bluff)

Extreme Race!

Join coaches Gennifer Gatan and Laura Zulliger on a tide race safari during one of the most extreme tidal events of the year! We will first review keystrokes and maneuvers required for navigating the strong currents of Yellow Bluff during the King Tides. We’ll be working on more committed moves in fast current including linking surf rides in a chaotic race and entering and exiting eddies with finesse. While this clinic is focused on performance surfing and maneuvering in dynamic water, we will have an opportunity to practice self and assisted rescues.

This clinic is ideal for sea kayakers with previous rough water experience who are looking to further develop their skills in dynamic moving water. A roll is preferred, while not required and previous experience in Yellow Bluff a plus, but not required. Paddlers with whitewater experience are also welcome.

Prerequisites: L4 Tidal Currents and Rough Water or equivalent experience strongly recommended. Students should have good bracing skills and be comfortable with wet exits, as well as self and assisted rescues. A combat roll is encouraged but NOT required.
